No Escape

In 2022, a military prison holds its most difficult inmates in a facility run by a brutal warden. Marine Captain J.T. Robbins is convicted of killing a superior officer and sent there, then transferred to Absolom, a remote jungle island where the worst prisoners are abandoned to survive on their own. The island's population has split into two hostile groups: the Outsiders, led by Walter Marek, who have reverted to savage violence, and the Insiders, a more peaceful community living under the protection of a man known as the Father. A former doctor, the Father has organized the Insiders into a functioning village with assigned roles. Robbins, determined to clear his name, wants only to get off the island and return to the world he left behind, which puts him in conflict with both the warden's system and the island's brutal order.

Martin Campbell directed the film, the fourth of the eighteen features in his directing career, following Cast a Deadly Spell and preceding GoldenEye. Michael Gaylin and Joel Gross wrote the screenplay, and Gale Anne Hurd produced. Ray Liotta stars as Robbins, with Lance Henriksen as the Father, Stuart Wilson as Marek, Kevin Dillon as Casey, Kevin J. O'Connor as Stephano and Don Henderson as Killian, among a credited cast of thirty-five.

Made for a budget of 20 million dollars, the film took about 15 million dollars worldwide, a modest return relative to its cost. Audience response has been mixed: on IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 24,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from roughly 510 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 5.3 out of 10 from 22 reviews.
