According to the original script, the film was supposed to be a teen comedy, with Emma Roberts (Liv) and Nikki Reed (Emma) in the lead roles. This idea was later abandoned, and the script had to be rewritten.
During the scene where gifts are presented to the bride at the wedding, many wives and girlfriends of the then-players of the Boston Red Sox baseball team make cameo appearances.
