Outlander

A spacecraft crashes in Viking-era Norway, and the pilot, Kainan, is the only survivor of his crew. He has not arrived alone: a predatory creature called the Moorwen escaped the wreck and begins attacking settlements. Captured by a local clan that takes him for an outsider, Kainan struggles to convince them of the threat. When the beast strikes their lands, the Vikings set aside their suspicion and join him, combining his advanced technology with their own weapons to hunt it down.

Howard McCain directed and co-wrote the film with Dirk Blackman; Christopher Roberts and John Schimmel produced it. Jim Caviezel plays Kainan, with Sophia Myles as Freya, Jack Huston as Wulfric, Ron Perlman as Gunnar and John Hurt as Rothgar. It was McCain's second feature as director, following a first film released earlier in the 2000s.

Made for about 50 million USD and released in April 2008, the film returned roughly 7 million USD worldwide, a small fraction of its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.2/10 from around 81,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5/10 from about 1,475 votes, placing audience response slightly above average. A critics' rating of 4.9/10 from 62 reviews sits below both audience scores.
