Little Richard: I Am Everything

Little Richard: I Am Everything is a documentary about Richard Penniman, the singer and pianist known as Little Richard, and about the Black and queer roots of rock and roll. Through archival footage and performance material, it traces his life and career, including the tension between his music and his religious faith, and argues that the history of American pop music has often overlooked the Black artists who shaped it. Family members, musicians and scholars appear in interviews alongside figures such as John Waters, Mick Jagger, Billy Porter, Tom Jones and, in archival footage, Paul McCartney.

The film was directed by Lisa Cortés, who also produced it with Robert Friedman and Caryn Capotosto, and it was made by Bungalow Media + Entertainment, CNN Films, Rolling Stone Films and Cortés Filmworks. It runs 98 minutes. Cortés directed it before The Space Race, which followed the same year; these are the two films listed in her directing credits here.

The documentary drew a solid response from viewers: on IMDb it holds a rating of 7.4 from around 1,900 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from a much smaller pool of 33 votes.
