Ned Kelly

Ned Kelly is an Australian bushranger in the second half of the nineteenth century, a young man from an Irish immigrant family who runs up against the colonial police. A confrontation involving a policeman and his sister turns into a feud, and when Constable Fitzpatrick lays the blame on Ned and inflates what took place, Ned and his brother Dan go into hiding with two friends, Joe Byrne and Steve Hart. Pursued by the authorities and with a substantial reward offered for their capture, the gang robs banks and becomes a popular hero to many settlers while trying to clear the family name.

Gregor Jordan directed the film, which followed his Two Hands (1999) and Buffalo Soldiers (2002) and preceded The Informers (2008) and Unthinkable (2010). John Michael McDonagh wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Heath Ledger as Ned Kelly, with Orlando Bloom as Joseph Byrne, Geoffrey Rush as Superintendent Francis Hare, Naomi Watts as Julia Cook, Joel Edgerton as Aaron Sherritt and Laurence Kinlan as Dan Kelly.

Released in 2003, the production had a budget of about 30 million US dollars and returned roughly 7 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from more than 29,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 out of 10 from around 400 votes.
