Fancy Dance

Fancy Dance centers on Jax, a Native American woman raising her niece Roki after the girl's mother, Jax's sister, goes missing. Faced with the possibility of losing Roki to the care of others, the two set off together, breaking the law to travel toward the Grand Nation Powwow in Oklahoma City. The journey becomes a way of holding on to the family they have left while searching for answers about what happened.

The film is a drama directed by Erica Tremblay, who wrote the screenplay with Miciana Alise and also produced alongside Deidre Backs and Heather Rae. It is Tremblay's feature debut, arriving after her earlier short film work. Lily Gladstone leads the cast as Jax, with Isabel DeRoy-Olson as Roki. Ryan Begay, Shea Whigham, Audrey Wasilewski and Crystle Lightning also appear among the 26 credited cast members. The production involved 42 credited crew and was made by Confluential Films, Significant Productions and Aum Group.

Released in June 2024, the film runs 91 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from roughly 4,200 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.6, from a much smaller base of about 71 votes. A critics' rating of 7.4 from 124 reviews places it noticeably above the audience scores, suggesting stronger approval among reviewers than among general viewers.
