The Strays

The Strays centres on Neve, a Black woman who has built a comfortable, carefully managed life in an affluent white suburb. She has a devoted husband, children and a well-kept home, and her days run smoothly. That order begins to break down with the arrival of two strangers in the town, whose presence unsettles her and gradually exposes the fault lines beneath her respectability. Nathaniel Martello-White wrote and directed the film, his feature debut, and it is a British production from The Bureau and Air Street Films, running 100 minutes.

Ashley Madekwe plays Neve, with Justin Salinger as her husband Ian and Jorden Myrie and Bukky Bakray as the two newcomers, Carl and Dione; Samuel Paul Small and Maria Almeida also appear. The film was released in February 2023.

On IMDb, roughly 13,000 voters give it 4.9 out of 10, while TMDB users rate it 5.5 from around 425 votes. A critics' score of 5.7 from 25 reviews places it slightly above the audience averages. The differences between these figures are modest, suggesting a mixed response across both professional and general viewers rather than broad enthusiasm or rejection.
