Hamburger Hill

Hamburger Hill is a 1987 war film set in Vietnam in May 1969. It follows Bravo Company of the 101st Airborne Division, a unit of young soldiers—some of them new to combat—ordered to take Hill 937, a strategically unimportant piece of ground held by North Vietnamese forces. The assault proves far more costly than expected, and the hill earns its nickname because of the way it grinds up the men sent against it. The film also shows the war being questioned back home while the soldiers struggle through ten days of fighting, poor conditions and the constant danger of fire from their own side.

John Irvin directed the film, working from a screenplay by James Carabatsos, who produced alongside Marcia Nasatir. It came after Irvin's Raw Deal and before Next of Kin in a run of films that also includes The Dogs of War and Ghost Story. The cast includes Dylan McDermott, Steven Weber, Tim Quill, Michael Boatman, Anthony Barrile and Don Cheadle.

Released on August 7, 1987, by Paramount and RKO Pictures, the film runs 110 minutes. It took about 14 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.7 rating from roughly 30,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 from about 529 votes. A critics' rating of 7.3 from 12 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
