Joan Baez: I Am a Noise

Joan Baez: I Am a Noise is a documentary about the American folk singer and activist Joan Baez, looking back over a career that has spanned more than sixty years. It begins with her farewell tour and follows her through a period of reflection, in which she revisits her early rise to fame and the personal difficulties that accompanied it. The film examines how her commitment to civil rights and pacifism, including her friendship with Martin Luther King, shaped her public life, and it also deals with painful memories she confronts directly. Archival material from her own collection is used, along with appearances by figures such as Bob Dylan, Mimi Fariña and David Harris.

Karen O'Connor, Miri Navasky and Maeve O'Boyle directed the film, with O'Connor and Navasky also producing. It was O'Connor and Navasky's second feature, following their 2010 documentary Facing Death.

Released in 2023, the film runs 113 minutes and is a United States production from Mead Street Films. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from around 1,100 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes. The larger vote count on IMDb gives that rating greater weight.
