I Know What You Did Last Summer
Short description
Five friends hide their involvement in a fatal car accident, agreeing to keep the event a secret to avoid the consequences. One year later, an unknown person who knows about the incident begins hunting them for revenge. As the group is targeted one by one, they learn that similar events occurred in the past and seek assistance from two people who survived a 1997 massacre in Southport.
This horror mystery thriller was directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, following her previous work on Someone Great in 2019 and Do Revenge in 2022. The screenplay was written by Robinson and Sam Lansky, with Neal H. Moritz serving as producer. The main cast includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The production involved 86 credited crew members and 39 credited actors.
Produced by Columbia Pictures, TSG Entertainment, Original Film, and Screen Gems in the United States and Australia, the film had a budget of 18 million USD. It earned 65 million USD at the worldwide box office. On IMDb, the movie has a rating of 5.1/10 based on 45,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds a 5.6/10 rating from 876 votes. Film critics provided a lower average rating of 4.8/10 across 213 reviews, reflecting a slightly more negative reception than that of the general audience.

- According to Jennifer Love Hewitt, she and Freddie Prinze Jr. (who played Ray in both films) were called “old men” on set.
- This is a sequel to the second film, which completely ignores the events of Sylvain White's horror film "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" (2006).
- The name Benjamin Willis is never mentioned on screen.
- Initially, it was intended for Danika’s nightmare (played by Madeline Cline), in which she sees Helen (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), to be Julie’s nightmare (Jennifer Love Hewitt), but this idea had to be abandoned due to the inability to align the filming schedule with Gellar and Hewitt’s working schedules. Gellar was digitally de-aged for a cameo to make her look as she did when playing Helen in 1997.
- At the film's premiere, the actors and crew involved in the film were gifted Labubu dolls dressed as Benjamin Willis (Labubu are collectible plush toys in the form of monsters from the Chinese brand Pop Mart).
- The house where Julie, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, lives, previously appeared in the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-2003). In the series, Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar (Helen in Jim Gillespie’s film), lived there.
- Jennifer Love Hewitt made it clear that she would only agree to reprise the role of Julie if her character had significant screen time in the next film. The actress stated in an interview that if she has to play this character again in another 27 years – that’s how long has passed since the release of Jim Gillespie’s film (1997) – she doesn’t want to have only a few seconds of screen time.
