Seven Veils

Seven Veils centres on Jeanine, a stage director who returns to the opera world after years away to stage Salome, the production that made her former mentor's name a decade earlier. She is expected to reproduce it as it was, but she has her own ideas about how it should be done, and the company's management gives her little backing when the cast pushes back. At the same time, her marriage is under strain: her husband has stayed home to care for their daughter and his mother, who has Alzheimer's, and a nurse has entered their household. Jeanine's memories of what surrounded the original staging keep pressing into her work and her private life.

Atom Egoyan directs from his own screenplay, and the film is the eleventh in the chronological list of his features, arriving after Remember. Amanda Seyfried plays Jeanine, with Rebecca Liddiard, Douglas Smith, Mark O'Brien, Vinessa Antoine and Ambur Braid among the cast. The production is Canadian, American and Finnish, running 107 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds 5.6 from around 1,600 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 from a much smaller sample of 48, while a critics' rating of 6.7 from 62 reviews places it somewhat higher than either audience measure.
