Another End

Set in a near future, Another End follows Sal, a man unable to move on after losing his wife, Zoe. His sister urges him to try a new form of therapy in which the thoughts and memories of the dead are briefly loaded into the body of a living person, allowing the bereaved to see their loved one again and say goodbye. Sal meets Zoe once more, but in the body of a woman he does not know, and he must decide how far he is willing to go to hold on to the past.

The film is directed by Piero Messina, who also wrote the screenplay, and is his second feature after Land. Gael García Bernal plays Sal, with Renate Reinsve as Zoe-Ava, Bérénice Bejo as Ebe and Olivia Williams as Juliette. It is a co-production between the United Kingdom, Italy and France, made on a budget of around 10 million USD.

Released on 21 March 2024, the film runs 129 minutes. Audience ratings are moderate rather than enthusiastic: it holds 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb, from roughly 1,200 votes, and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB, from a much smaller base of about 73 votes. The larger IMDb sample suggests a mixed but generally favourable response.
