Athena

Athena Mulvain lives in California with her six sisters under the care of her grandparents, who follow a strict regimen of healthy eating, exercise and beliefs drawn from numerology and astrology. Into this unconventional household comes Adam Calhorn Shaw, a young lawyer with political ambitions, who falls for Athena. His world and hers could hardly be more different, and their relationship faces the question of whether his conservative circle will accept her and her family's ways.

The film is a musical romantic comedy directed by Richard Thorpe, released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in November 1954 and running 96 minutes. Leonard Spigelgass and William Ludwig wrote the screenplay, and Joe Pasternak produced. Jane Powell plays Athena, Edmund Purdom is Adam, Debbie Reynolds plays Minerva, Vic Damone plays Johnny Nyle, Louis Calhern is Grandpa Mulvain and Linda Christian appears as Beth Hallson, among a credited cast of 21.

Athena sits between two other Thorpe films, Knights of the Round Table and Jailhouse Rock. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from 771 votes, indicating a modest reception that places it well below the standing of some of the director's better-known titles.
