Director and producer Paul Feig initially wanted to title the film “Grand Theft Lotto” (as a play on “Grand Theft Auto”), but the creators of the video game series objected.
Awkwafina, as Katy, recites Samuel L. Jackson's monologue from the science fiction horror film “Deep Blue Sea” (Renny Harlin, 1999) during the audition.
John Cena (who appeared on screen as Noel) is a passionate fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He has figurines of two turtles – Donatello and Michelangelo – on his table, and these are not film props, but his own personal figurines.
