Short description

Your Monster follows Laura Franco, a soft-spoken actress whose life unravels after a breakup and the loss of a role she had counted on. Returning to her childhood home to recover, she discovers that a monster has taken up residence in her closet. The intruder is blunt and combative rather than merely frightening, and instead of driving him out, Laura forms an unexpected bond with him. Their arrangement pushes her to confront her anger and rebuild her confidence, even as memories of her ex-boyfriend Jacob, a director who had written a leading part for her, linger in the background.

The film is Caroline Lindy's feature directorial debut, and she also wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Kayla Foster and Kira Carstensen. Melissa Barrera leads as Laura, with Tommy Dewey as the Monster and Edmund Donovan as Jacob. A second feature directed by Lindy arrives in 2026, so this stands as the first of the two. The premise blends comedy, horror and romance.

Released in October 2024 and running 104 minutes, the film drew modest audience scores on IMDb and TMDB, while a critics' rating of 7/10 from 98 reviews places critical response somewhat higher than general viewer reaction. With a credited cast of 22, it is a small-scale production.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The main character's costume, as worn by Melissa Barrera at a Halloween celebration, is a reference to Elsa Lanchester's costume as the titular character in James Whale's horror film 'The Bride of Frankenstein' (1935).
