Persona non grata is a drama about Andrea, a former ski racer who suffers the sudden loss of her husband. While she is in a vulnerable state, a neighbor assaults her, but the police inform her that a prosecution is unlikely. This experience mirrors a trauma from her youth when she was abused while part of the national ski team. At that time, she believed the powerful Austrian Ski Association protected the perpetrator. As the MeToo movement gains momentum in Austria and reports of sexual violence in sports increase, Andrea decides to share her story publicly after the skiing association refuses to create a support office for victims.
The film was directed and written by Antonin Svoboda. It is a co-production between the Austrian company Coop 99 Filmproduktion and the Italian company Albolina Film. The lead role of Andrea was played by Gerti Drassl, with a supporting cast that includes Maya Unger, Katja Lechthaler, Lukas Miko, Stefan Wancura, and Tanja Petrovsky. The movie has a runtime of 92 minutes and was released on January 26, 2024.
