After his daughter dies in a car accident, Jurek is persuaded by his father-in-law Ben to take part in a Chinese ritual known as minghun, a marriage between the dead. The two men set out to find a suitable deceased partner for the young woman, a search that takes them far from home and tests the bond between them. Minghun is a Polish drama directed by Jan P. Matuszyński from a screenplay by Grzegorz Łoszewski, produced by Klaudiusz Frydrych, Krzysztof Rak and Inga Kruk for Di Factory, with backing from PIS, TVP and Canal+ Polska. Marcin Dorociński plays Jurek, with Daxing Zhang as Ben and Natalia Bui as Marysia, also known as Mei-Xiu. Izabela Francis Vinent Abreu, Grażyna Sobocińska and Victoria Gorodetskaya appear in supporting roles. The film runs 94 minutes and was released on 29 November 2024. It followed Matuszyński's earlier features, including The Last Family and Leave No Traces, and continued his work in Polish cinema. Its cast of 28 credited performers and crew of 94 point to a mid-sized production typical of Polish feature filmmaking, built around a veteran lead actor and a premise that mixes grief with a cross-cultural ritual. The story is grounded in the emotional aftermath of loss rather than spectacle.
