The Kerala Story

The Kerala Story follows Shalini Unnikrishnan, a young woman from Kerala who dreams of becoming a nurse. Her life takes a different direction when she is taken from her home and subjected to manipulation by religious radicals, who push her toward extremism and rebrand her as Fatima. She eventually ends up in an Afghan jail, where she recounts the events that led her there.

Directed by Sudipto Sen, the film stars Adah Sharma as Shalini, alongside Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, Siddhi Idnani, Eleena Koul and Saniya Mirzaeva. It was written by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Sen and Suryapal Singh, with Shah producing under Sunshine Pictures. Released in May 2023, it was Sen's first feature as director; he followed it in 2024 with Bastar: The Naxal Story.

Audience response on IMDb stands at 6.7 out of 10 from around 79,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 4.5 out of 10 from roughly 36 votes. The difference in vote counts reflects the film's wide viewership in India against a much smaller international sampling.
