Baby's Day Out

Baby's Day Out centres on an infant from a wealthy family who is taken from his home by three crooks posing as newspaper photographers. The kidnapping is meant to fund bigger things for the gang, but the plan collapses once the baby slips away from them. Left to roam a large city on his own, he wanders through places he recognises from his favourite picture book while his parents and the authorities search for him. His pursuers, meanwhile, find that recovering him is far harder than taking him, and the chase takes a toll on them.

Patrick Read Johnson directed the film, his second feature after Spaced Invaders and before Angus. John Hughes wrote the screenplay and produced with Richard Vane. Joe Mantegna, Lara Flynn Boyle, Joe Pantoliano, Brian Haley, Cynthia Nixon and Fred Thompson appear among the 42 credited cast members.

Released in 1994, the film had a budget of about 48 million US dollars and returned roughly 17 million worldwide, a poor result against its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.2 from around 60,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 from about 1,500 votes. A critics' rating of 4.5 from 19 reviews sits below those audience figures.
