What's left behind the scenes
- The bees shown in the film are real, not created via computer technology. While filming the scene in which thousands of bees swarm Amzia's hand, the actor Matthew McConaughey held a queen bee in his hand for nearly 40 minutes to attract the worker bees. By that time, it was already known that the actor was allergic to bee venom, which is why the scene was filmed on the very last day of production.
