A herpetologist looking into a string of deadly rattlesnake attacks comes to suspect the snakes are not behaving naturally. His investigation points toward a nerve gas that the military disposed of in the desert, and toward a military camp that seems to know more about the animals' altered behaviour than it admits.
Rattlers is a 1976 American horror film directed by John McCauley, who also wrote the screenplay with Jerry Golding and produced it through Boxoffice International Pictures. It runs 82 minutes. Sam Chew Jr. plays Dr. Tom Parkinson, with Elisabeth Chauvet as Ann Bradley and Dan Priest as Colonel Stroud; Ronald Gold, Al Dunlap and Dan Balentine are also among the 22 credited cast members.
The film draws little enthusiasm from viewers. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.1 out of 10 from around 1,200 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 4.2 out of 10 from roughly 30 votes, indicating a small and largely unimpressed audience. It stands as an early entry in McCauley's filmography as director, made at a time when stories about animals turned dangerous by human intervention were common in American horror.
