City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold

Mitch Robbins is a New York radio executive with a wife, two children and a comfortable city life. His fortieth birthday takes an unexpected turn when his brother Glen, the family's unreliable one, shows up, and Mitch also comes across an old treasure map left behind by the trail guide Curly. Joined by his longtime friend Phil and, less willingly, by Glen, Mitch sets out for the desert of the American Southwest to hunt for a cache of gold. The three city dwellers are not the only ones after it, and a figure from the past complicates the search.

Paul Weiland directed the film, working from a screenplay by Billy Crystal, Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, with Crystal also producing. It is the earliest of the three features listed for Weiland, followed by Roseanna's Grave and Made of Honor. Crystal, Daniel Stern and Jack Palance reprise their roles from the earlier City Slickers, and Jon Lovitz joins as Glen. Patricia Wettig and Pruitt Taylor Vince also appear among the 23 credited cast members.

Made for a budget of 40 million dollars, the film took in about 72 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.3 out of 10 from roughly 360 votes, while a film critics' rating stands at 4 out of 10 from 26 reviews, so the critical and audience responses are both moderate.
