Dao is a drama that explores family heritage and the connection between different worlds. The story follows Gloria, a woman preparing for her daughter's wedding in Paris. This event is linked to a ceremony in Guinea-Bissau where her father is honored as an ancestor. The film blends reality with fiction, weaving together stories of love, loss, and memory as characters move between Europe and West Africa. Through these rituals of life and death, Gloria seeks peace and reconciles with her personal history.
The film was written and directed by Alain Gomis. Following his 2003 work Little Light, this is the second film he has directed. The cast features Katy Correa in the role of Gloria, alongside D’Johé Kouadio as Nour, Samir Guesmi as Slimane, Mike Etienne as James, Nicolas Gomis as Pierre, and Fara Baco Gomis as Jean. It is a joint production from France, Senegal, and Guinea-Bissau involving companies such as Les films du Worso and Telecine Bissau Produções. With a runtime of 185 minutes, the film has received a limited number of ratings, currently holding a score of 4.2/10 on TMDB based on 4 votes.
