In the Summers

In the Summers follows two sisters, Violeta and Eva, across the formative years of their lives as they spend each summer visiting their father, Vicente, at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Vicente is loving but unpredictable, at times creating a warm and magical world for his daughters while struggling with addiction and a past he cannot put behind him. Over the years, the sisters grow up and the visits change; affection and conflict sit side by side as the family tries to hold together.

The film is written and directed by Alessandra Lacorazza in her feature debut, and is drawn from her own family experience. The cast is led by the Puerto Rican musician Residente as Vicente, with Sasha Calle as Eva, Lio Mehiel as Violeta, and Dreya Renae Castillo, Luciana Elisa Quiñonez and Kimaya Thais playing the sisters at younger ages. It runs 98 minutes and was produced by Alexander Dinelaris, Janek Ambros and Jan Suter.

Released in September 2024, the film has a 6.5 rating on IMDb from around 1,300 votes and a 6.9 on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes, suggesting a modest but engaged audience. Its critics' rating stands at 7.4 from 56 reviews.
