Short description
A father and son on the run from the police seek shelter at a summer camp designed for young adults with mental disabilities. To maintain their cover, they pretend to be a caregiver and a camper. While their deception leads to various complications, the experience creates an emotional bond that alters their perspectives on life.
This French family comedy was directed by Artus, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Milan Mauger and Clément Marchand. Artus stars as Paulo, appearing alongside Clovis Cornillac, Alice Belaïdi, Marc Riso, Céline Groussard, and Gad Abecassis. The production involved Sony Pictures, M6 Films, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, and Same Player.
The film performed well commercially, earning 84 million USD against a budget of 6 million USD. It has received a positive response from viewers, holding a rating of 7.1/10 on TMDB based on 875 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- A little over a week after the premiere, Artjus stated in an interview that no designers had agreed to sew costumes for the film's creative team and cast for their appearance at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. A couple of weeks later, the French company Kering Group agreed to lend the filmmakers and actors costumes for their red carpet appearance.
- Artysus (the director and screenwriter, who also played one of the film's lead characters) was very fond of Jaco Van Dormael's drama "The Eighth Day" (1996), and he had always been struck by the imagination and energy of people with developmental disabilities. While working on this picture, he constantly encountered prejudice; people would casually tell him that everyone already knows about the existence of people with developmental disabilities, so there was no need to draw unnecessary attention to them, but such remarks only strengthened his desire to make the film.
