DeepStar Six

DeepStar Six is a 1989 science fiction horror film about an underwater research and military facility built on the ocean floor. The crew, led by Captain Phillip Laidlaw, has spent months submerged while working on the installation. When they blast open a large cavern to make way for part of the base, the explosion disturbs something that has been hidden in the depths. A hostile creature attacks the station, and the crew must fight to survive while the damaged facility threatens to give way around them. The film was directed by Sean S. Cunningham, whose earlier features include Together, Friday the 13th and Spring Break; this was his fourth film as director. The screenplay is by Lewis Abernathy and Geof Miller, and the cast includes Taurean Blacque, Nancy Everhard, Greg Evigan, Miguel Ferrer, Nia Peeples and Matt McCoy. It was produced by TriStar Pictures and Carolco Pictures on a budget of about 8 million dollars, and its worldwide box office take was also roughly 8 million dollars, meaning it did not recoup its costs theatrically. Audience reception has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 out of 10 from roughly 350 votes. A critics' rating of 3.8 out of 10 from eleven reviews places it below even those audience scores.
