Weekend in Taipei

Weekend in Taipei follows John Lawlor, a DEA agent who puts his work ahead of everything else, and Joey Kang, a Taipei-based transporter whose driving skill and quick thinking make her hard to catch. Years earlier the two fell into a relationship in Taipei, but the pressures of crime and corruption pulled them apart. Fifteen years on, their paths cross again over a single weekend in the city, where unfinished business from the past resurfaces and neither can simply walk away.

George Huang directed and co-wrote the film with Luc Besson, who also produced alongside Virginie Besson-Silla. It is Huang's third feature as director, arriving after Swimming with Sharks (1994) and Trojan War (1997). Luke Evans plays John Lawlor and Gwei Lun-mei plays Joey Kang, with Sung Kang, Wyatt Yang, Pernell Walker and Zach Ireland in supporting roles. The production, a United States and France co-production through EuropaCorp, Kinology and Rabbits Black, had a budget of about 30 million USD.

Released in September 2024, the film took roughly 3 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audiences have been divided on it: on IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 6,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 out of 10 from roughly 314 votes. The action-thriller runs 101 minutes.
