- When Romola Garai first came to the audition, she was rejected because the director found her too "rough around the edges." The actress dressed up, came back, and was given the role.
- Outdoor scenes were filmed in the cold. Two minutes after filming began, the camera would freeze and had to be carried inside to thaw. The actors also warmed up indoors along with the equipment.
