Space Chimps

Space Chimps follows Ham III, the grandson of the first chimpanzee sent into space. Rather than pursuing a career in exploration, Ham performs as a circus act. When a space probe goes missing, a space agency recruits him for a rescue mission alongside two other chimpanzees: Luna, a capable and by-the-book colleague, and Titan, a strong but self-important commander. Traveling through a wormhole, the team ends up on an uncharted planet ruled by a tyrannical leader, and the mission turns into a struggle to work together and find a way home.

The 2008 animated adventure was directed by Kirk DeMicco, who wrote the screenplay with Robert Moreland. It was the first film DeMicco directed, ahead of The Croods, Vivo, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken and Margie Claus. Andy Samberg voices Ham III, with Cheryl Hines as Luna, Patrick Warburton as Titan, Jeff Daniels as Zartog and Kristin Chenoweth as Kilowatt. Barry Sonnenfeld and John H. Williams produced the Canada-United States co-production, which runs 81 minutes.

Made for a budget of 37 million USD, the film took in about 65 million USD worldwide. Its ratings sit below the midpoint: 4.5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 13,000 votes and 4.9 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 500 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 89 reviews places it close to the audience scores, indicating broad agreement rather than a sharp divide.
