Presto DiGiotagione is a stage magician whose signature trick involves pulling his rabbit, Alec, out of a top hat. The two hats are linked, so what vanishes into one emerges from the other. Alec, however, has grown tired of being left hungry while his owner performs, and on the night the magician forgets his carrot, the rabbit turns the act against him, refusing to cooperate and turning the show into chaos. The short follows their escalating back-and-forth on stage.
The film is a dialogue-light animated short running five minutes, released in 2008 by Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures and directed and written by Doug Sweetland, with Richard E. Hollander producing. Sweetland also provides the voices of both Presto and Alec. It was his first directing credit, made several years before he went on to direct the feature Storks in 2016.
It was made as a short attached to a Pixar feature release of that period. On IMDb it holds 8.3/10 from roughly 27,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.8/10 from about 1,100 votes. The wide gap in vote counts reflects the short's broad exposure alongside a major theatrical release.
