Amal

Amal is a drama set in a Brussels high school where a literature teacher encourages her students to embrace free expression and the power of reading. Her unconventional teaching methods and passion for literature inspire some students but provoke hostility from others. The conflict intensifies when she supports a student of Moroccan descent who decides to be open about her homosexuality. This decision leads to harassment and threats directed at both the student and the teacher, forcing Amal to confront personal issues from her own past while facing opposition from colleagues and parents.

The film was directed by Jawad Rhalib, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside David Lambert and Chloé Léonil. Lubna Azabal stars in the title role, supported by a cast that includes Fabrizio Rongione, Catherine Salée, Babetida Sadjo, Johan Heldenbergh, and Ingrid Heiderscheidt. This joint production between Belgium and France was produced by SCOPE Pictures and Serendipity Films with a credited crew of 46 people.
