Short description
Gary and Wyatt are two teenagers who do not fit in with their classmates, and their attempts to get attention from girls go nowhere. Inspired by Frankenstein, they use Wyatt's home computer to build the woman of their dreams. The result is Lisa, a beautiful and highly intelligent young woman with powers that let her arrange just about anything. She sets out to push the boys into situations that force them to stand up for themselves, while her presence turns their ordinary suburban lives upside down.
John Hughes directed and wrote the film, his third turn in the director's chair after Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, and the fourth of the eight features listed for him. Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith play the two friends, Kelly LeBrock plays Lisa, and Bill Paxton appears as Chet. Joel Silver and Bill Damaschke produced for Universal Pictures and Silver Pictures, with a budget of 8 million USD and a worldwide box office of 39 million USD.
Audience response sits in mixed territory, with a rating of 6.6/10 on IMDb from 105,000 votes and 6.5/10 on TMDB from 1,605 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9/10 from 40 reviews places professional opinion close to the audience scores rather than clearly above or below them. The film runs 93 minutes.
