The film's screenplay is based on Kate Snell's book "Diana: Her Last Love".
The jewelry brand Chopard officially presented a collection of jewelry that was used during the filming of the movie. The pieces almost exactly recreate iconic jewelry worn by Princess Diana at important events.
Posters for the film were accidentally placed on Place Alma in Paris, near the entrance to the tunnel where the princess died in a car crash in 1997. The placement of the posters caused a storm of public outrage, and they were eventually removed at the request of the French distributor Le Pacte.
Jessica Chastain could have played the role of Princess Diana, but left the project due to a scheduling conflict.
Key scenes of Diana and Dodi Al Fayed relaxing on his family yacht were filmed on the 45-meter luxury yacht 'Princess Yolanda'. The opening and closing scenes in the presidential suite of the Paris Ritz hotel were filmed at 'Fetcham Park House' in Surrey.
During a Red Cross mission in 1996, Diana is driven in a Land Cruiser 100, which was released in 1998. A Range Rover Sport, released in 2005, is also visible in one scene.
