- Initially, Linda Fiorentino rejected the script, stating that she did not want to play a prostitute. However, after changes were made to her character as the script was reworked, the actress changed her mind.
- According to Joe Eszterhas's autobiography, who wrote the screenplay, he was extremely dissatisfied with the finished film. Director William Friedkin made so many changes to the script that Eszterhas at one point threatened to demand his name be removed from the credits. Paramount Pictures managed to dissuade him. Friedkin himself later admitted that he had practically rewritten the script, but also stated that the result was one of his most beloved films that he had ever directed.
- Angie Everhart initially filmed a provocative scene, but then changed her mind, and the scene had to be reshot with a body double.
