What's left behind the scenes
- The main role was initially offered to Dustin Hoffman, but he declined due to creative differences with Federico Fellini. Hoffman was unable to convince the director to record sound live during filming. The actor did not want to dub himself during post-production, fearing it would negatively affect the integrity of his performance.
- Towards the end of filming, Ettore Manni, who played the role of Dr. Catzone, accidentally shot himself.
