Set in 1881 at Oxford's Old College, this story follows three distinct academics. While Abercrombie Smith embodies Victorian masculinity and Monkhouse Lee is a fragile student from Thailand, Edward Bellingham focuses on the mysteries of ancient Egypt. Bellingham's unconventional research into Egyptian secrets becomes the center of attention at the college, leading to suspicions that his experiments with a skeletal remain known as Lot No 249 may actually bring the creature back to life and cause attacks on people.
