A Middle Eastern state has acquired intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads and is threatening both the Soviet Union and the United States. To eliminate the danger, a joint Soviet-American strike force is assembled under the command of United States Air Force officer Charles "Chappy" Sinclair, who must lead a surgical attack on a heavily defended missile site. Getting pilots from the two rival nations to work together turns out to be the smallest of his difficulties, as he also faces political interference and discovers that someone in the Pentagon is working to sabotage the operation.
The film is a Cold War action drama directed by Sidney J. Furie, who wrote the screenplay with Kevin Elders. It was the ninth of the thirteen features Furie directed in chronological order, following Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and preceding Ladybugs. Louis Gossett Jr. returns as Chappy Sinclair, the role he had played in the earlier Iron Eagle. The cast also includes Mark Humphrey as Captain Matt Cooper, Stuart Margolin as General Stillmore, Alan Scarfe as Colonel Vardovsky, Sharon Hacohen as Valeri Zuyeniko and Maury Chaykin as Sergeant Downs. Produced by TriStar Pictures and Carolco Pictures, the film was made in Israel and Canada and runs 105 minutes.
Audience response has been muted. On IMDb it holds a rating of 3.9 out of 10 from roughly 5,700 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 4.5 out of 10 from about 103 votes.
