A Balloon's Landing

A disillusioned writer from Hong Kong, Gu Tian-Yu, crosses paths with Zhong Yi-Xiang, a street gangster in Taipei. The two men set out together in search of the Bay of Whales, a place said to lead to paradise, and their journey brings unexpected turns and a bond neither anticipated.

A Balloon's Landing is a 2024 Taiwanese drama running 100 minutes, produced by Sarso Chou through Drama Culture. It was directed by Teng I-han, who also wrote the screenplay with MoMo Wu and Seven Leung. Terrance Lau plays Gu Tian-Yu and Fandy Fan plays Zhong Yi-Xiang, also credited as Jin Run-Fa, with Chan Tzu-hsuan, Allison Lin, Rachel Kan and Tao Chuang Cheng in supporting roles.

The film has found a modest but clearly appreciative audience. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from 764 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 from a much smaller base of 24 votes, and the gap between the two suggests that those who seek the film out tend to respond to it more warmly than its broader viewer pool does.
