What's left behind the scenes

  • To play Doc Holliday, who was suffering from tuberculosis, Dennis Quaid had to lose 30 pounds.
  • The film was shot almost simultaneously with George P. Cosmatos' "Tombstone" (1993), in which Kurt Russell played Earp and Val Kilmer played Doc. Unlike Cosmatos, who preferred a heap of tales about the legendary sheriff, the version by Kazdan and Costner is intentionally historical, detailed, and respectful of the real characters. This, among other things, led to their failure at the box office.
  • Due to filming on this project, Michael Madsen was unable to join the set of "Pulp Fiction" (1994) to play Vincent Vega.
  • The film was originally conceived as a six-hour miniseries.
  • A 212-minute version of the film was released on DVD.
  • To play Doc Holliday, who was suffering from tuberculosis, Dennis Quaid had to lose 13 kilograms.
  • The film was shot almost simultaneously with "Tombstone: The Legend of the West," where Kurt Russell played Earp and Val Kilmer played Doc. Unlike Kosmatos, who preferred a heap of tales about the legendary sheriff, the version by Lawrence Kasdan and Kevin Costner is intentionally historical, detailed, and respectful of the real characters. This, among other things, led to their failure at the box office.
  • In some scenes, a close-up shows the protagonist's authentic six-shooter, which the film's creators borrowed from the administration of the Earp Museum.
  • Nearby, filming took place on George P. Kosmatos and Kevin Jarre's western, "Tombstone: The Legend of the West" (1993), whose creators bought up practically all the clothing of the corresponding historical period that could be found on the market. Because of this, the creators of "Wyatt Earp" had to import clothing from Europe, which led to delays in the shooting schedule.
  • Michael Madsen, who starred in this film, was offered the role of Vincent Vega in Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" (1994), but he had already signed a contract to film with Lawrence Kasdan. According to Madsen, he would have had time to work on both, but the producers hesitated and did not give him time to rehearse the role of Vega. In the end, John Travolta played the character for Tarantino.
