The Women in the Lakes is a Japanese drama thriller centered on the suspicious death of a centenarian living in a Lake Biwa nursing home. The plot follows a young detective investigating whether the man died due to equipment failure or foul play. During the inquiry, the detective begins a forbidden romance with a female caregiver. As the investigation stalls, a reporter joins the effort to reveal secrets from the past, and the group is haunted by disturbing memories connected to the lake.
The film was written and directed by Tatsushi Ōmori. Within his filmography, this work follows Cop Festival: New Beginning and MOTHER, and precedes Hokusai's Daughter. The production was a collaboration between Tokyo Theatres Company, Happinet Phantom Studios, FINOR, and Yoake Pictures, with Daisuke Wada and Tomomi Yoshimura serving as producers. The movie has a total runtime of 141 minutes.
