Mulan II follows the heroine of its predecessor after she has saved her country. General Shang proposes marriage, but before the wedding can take place the Emperor sends the couple on a secret mission: they must escort three princesses across China to meet the men they are contracted to marry. Mushu, Mulan's guardian dragon, learns that he will lose his position if she joins the Li family, so he works to create tension between the couple. When Mulan discovers that the princesses do not want the arranged matches, she makes a choice that alters the course of the journey.
The film is a direct-to-video animated sequel released in 2004, running 79 minutes. Darrell Rooney directed it after The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure; Lynne Southerland directed it as her first feature before Cinderella and the Secret Prince. The screenplay is by Roger S.H. Schulman, Michael Lucker and Chris Parker, produced by Jennifer Blohm. Ming-Na Wen and BD Wong return as Mulan and Shang, with Mark Moseley as Mushu and supporting voice work from Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh and Harvey Fierstein among 28 credited cast members.
