Short description

An overconfident alien student attempts to pass a practical exam by abducting a sleeping farmer. Under the supervision of a critical instructor, the teenager struggles to operate the complex controls of a spaceship. His lack of precision leads to several clumsy accidents, including slamming the human into a wall, as he tries to master the delicate process of transporting a person from Earth.

Produced by Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures, this 2006 short film was directed and written by Gary Rydstrom. It is the first of three films he directed, followed by Hawaiian Vacation in 2011 and Strange Magic in 2015. Katherine Sarafian served as the producer for the five-minute animation.

The movie was well received by viewers, earning a 7.7 rating on IMDb from 22,000 votes and a 7.5 rating on TMDB based on 846 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

There are exactly 2,000 switches on the remote control.
When Mr. B fixes Stu's mistake, his hands start flying over the control panel, and the viewer gets the impression he has six hands instead of two. A separate animator controlled each hand in this episode.
Under the farmer's bed, you can notice a toy. It is the main character from Pixar's computer-animated short film "Tin Toy" (1988).
