A young director is tasked with rebooting Camp Miasma, a long-running slasher franchise that declined after several poor sequels. To revitalize the series, she seeks out Billy Presley, the mysterious actress who played the survivor in the original film and has since lived in seclusion. When the two women meet at TMDB where the first movie was filmed, their encounter spirals into a violent and delusional world driven by fear and desire, blurring the lines between reality and cinema.
Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, this is the third feature film in her career, following We're All Going to the World's Fair and I Saw the TV Glow. The movie stars Hannah Einbinder as Kris and Gillian Anderson as Billy, with Amanda Fix appearing as a younger version of Billy. The production was a collaboration between Plan B Entertainment and MUBI, involving a credited crew of 200 people and a cast of 32.
The film had a budget of 8 million USD and earned 9 million USD at the worldwide box office, resulting in a small profit. On TMDB, the movie holds a rating of 6.5/10 based on 164 votes.
