Short description
Set in New York City during the late 1990s, this crime thriller follows Hank Thompson, a former baseball prodigy whose professional dreams ended due to an injury. Now working as a bartender and spending time with his girlfriend, Yvonne, Hank leads a quiet life until he agrees to watch his neighbor's cat for a few days. This simple favor pulls him into a dangerous conflict with various criminal gangs. Unsure why he has become a target, Hank must navigate the city's underworld and fight for his survival.

- While working on his physical fitness (he needed to tone his glutes), Austin Butler enlisted the help of a professional trainer. His workouts included exercises for the lower body that activate the gluteal muscles, as well as muscle groups in the lower back and legs. Director Darren Aronofsky wanted Butler's appearance to hint at problems with alcohol, so pizza, which he washed down with beer, was included in the actor's diet. When Butler began training, he weighed 70 kg and gained 15 kg in six months.
- The cat trainer for Tonic explained to Austin Butler how and when to feed the animal. Director and producer Darren Aronofsky said that working with Tonic was much more comfortable than working with many human actors.
