Short description
Based on the true story of a Russian serial killer who, over many years, claimed victim to over 50 people. His victims were mostly under the age of 17. In what was then a communists state, the police investigations were hampered by bureaucracy, incompetence and those in power. The story is told from the viewpoint of the detective in charge of the case.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the book "The Killer Department" (1993) by American author Robert Cullen.
- In the final scene of the film, Chikatilo is executed with a Glock pistol, but this brand was never in service with the Soviet/Russian army or police.
- Wedding rings in the USSR and Russia are worn on the right hand, not the left, as in the USA.
- Filming took place in the vicinity of Budapest.
