Feeling Minnesota

Feeling Minnesota follows Jjaks Clayton, who returns home after a long absence for his brother Sam's wedding, only to find that the old friction between the two men has not gone away. Sam is marrying Freddie, a former stripper who has been pushed into the match by Red, a club owner she owes. Freddie and Jjaks become involved and run off together, which sets Sam and Red after them. The pursuit stirs up further trouble, and the pressure between the pursuers themselves begins to grow.

The film was released in September 1996. Steven Baigelman wrote the screenplay and made it his directing debut, while Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher produced through Jersey Films, with Fine Line Features handling the release. Keanu Reeves plays Jjaks, Cameron Diaz plays Freddie, Vincent D'Onofrio plays Sam, and Delroy Lindo plays Red. Dan Aykroyd appears as a detective, and Courtney Love has a role as a waitress, among a credited cast of 24. Set in the American Midwest, the story mixes crime, romance and dark comedy.

Its reception was modest on all sides, and the numbers agree on that point rather than diverging. On IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from around 12,000 votes. On TMDB the score is also 5.4 out of 10, from 185 votes. A critics' rating of 3.6 out of 10 from 19 reviews places professional opinion clearly below even the subdued audience scores.
