Belly is a 1998 American crime drama about two longtime friends from Queens who have built a reputation as feared figures in their neighborhood. Tommy, played by rapper DMX, is the impulsive and aggressive one, while Nas's Sincere is more reserved and begins to want something quieter. Their paths pull apart when Tommy wants to expand into a larger drug operation with Sincere at his side. Police pressure and younger newcomers looking to move up threaten the position the two have held.
The film was written and directed by Hype Williams, known primarily for his work in music videos. It was his first feature film. The cast also includes Hassan Johnson, Taral Hicks, Tionne Watkins and Oliver "Power" Grant, and the production brought together a number of figures from hip-hop. Released on November 4, 1998, it runs 96 minutes and was made for about 3 million dollars, taking roughly 10 million dollars worldwide.
