This documentary follows the life of Googoosh, a prominent figure in Iranian pop culture who began performing as a young child. After achieving international success and performing with artists such as Ray Charles and Tina Turner, her career was halted by the Islamic Revolution. This political shift banned women from singing in public, leading to over two decades of house arrest and isolation for the singer. The film uses archival footage and interviews to explore her eventual exile and return to the stage, while examining her role as an advocate for the rights of girls and women.
Directed and produced by Niloufar Taghizadeh, this is the second film she released in 2024, following Nila's Dream in the Garden of Eden. The production was a collaboration between companies in Germany and the United States, including ZDF/Arte, Windcatcher Productions, and mindjazz pictures. The cast features Googoosh appearing as herself, alongside Shohreh Aghdashloo, Aref Arefkia, Raha Etemadi, Leila Forouhar, and Hamid Moslehi. The music documentary has a runtime of 94 minutes.
