Following the accidental death of Thomas's wife, Mathilda, he struggles to connect with the four-year-old boy. Feeling unable to bond with the child, Thomas travels through Thailand with a local guide named Chaan to locate Mapring's biological relatives. As the journey progresses, the two begin to develop a relationship, leaving Thomas to decide the child's future once the biological family is found.
The film was directed by Safy Nebbou, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Cyril Gomez-Mathieu.
