Hit the Deck

Three sailors on shore leave in San Francisco have forty-eight hours to spend, and they use them for romance and for a tangle with the entertainment business. One of the men gets into trouble after striking a performer who had been paying unwelcome attention to his sister, and the police are soon involved. A young woman who hopes to make it as a performer becomes caught between her ambitions and a wealthy producer's intentions toward her.

The film is a musical comedy directed by Roy Rowland, coming between Witness to Murder and Slander in his filmography, from a screenplay by Sonya Levien and William Ludwig and produced by Joe Pasternak for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Its cast includes Jane Powell, Tony Martin, Debbie Reynolds, Walter Pidgeon, Vic Damone and Gene Raymond, and the production credits list forty crew members. Its running time is 112 minutes.
